Starting with a clean "slate"

In early October on a wet, gloomy day I visited Honister Slate Mine in the centre of the Lake District. The working mine produces famous Westmorland Green Slate that is perfect for using in my mosaic designs. This 450 million year old material is hard wearing, so is perfect in my mosaics, and with its beautiful subtle green tones it's ideal for botanical designs.

Travelling up to the mine means that I can hand select each piece of slate and bring them back to my Warwickshire studio, this means that each piece is perfect for my mosaic designs.

Below are several of the mosaics that I have created using the beautiful Westmorland Green Slate from Honister Slate Mine.
